Ah.. Same problem I have when I use my Vantec External USB drive. When it's getting ready to restore after finding the backup, it reboots at some stage. This is where it loses the USB. As soon as you see it reboot, pull the USB and when it starts up, plug it back in again. It will work. I have to do that when I use one of the USB external drives that doesn't seem to stay detected after a PS3 warm reboot.

It's not a PS3 problem, it's the USB External casing's compatibility with the warm USB rebooting.

What you are saying makes so much sence. I'll try it tomorrow morning as I'm at work now, (I work shifts) (got to pay those bills)
